The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has issued a stern warning to churches, mosques, nightclubs, bars, and event centers regarding noise pollution.

In a statement on LASEPA’s official platform, the agency urged these establishments to adhere to recommended sound levels to prevent noise pollution.

Excessive noise, according to LASEPA, poses a significant threat to the peace and well-being of communities.

The agency called on these places of worship and entertainment to ensure that sound levels are kept within acceptable limits as a gesture of consideration for their neighborhoods.

The statement emphasized the importance of fostering a quieter and more peaceful environment, where everyone can enjoy their spaces without causing undue disturbance.

To reinforce its warning, LASEPA referred to Section 199 Sub-sections k, l, and m of the Lagos State law, specifically related to noise pollution.

These sections empower the agency to regulate noise standards for products or classes that emit noise capable of adversely affecting public health or welfare.

It also allows for noise standards to be set for products or classes sold based on their effectiveness in reducing noise.

Additionally, the agency has the authority to establish noise pollution standards for various types of premises.

These includes residential, religious, commercial, industrial, and more, with the aim of controlling the psychological and physiological effects of noise on humans and its impact on domestic animals, wildlife, and property.
