The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to its newly recruited and converted procurement officers, stressing that corruption, negligence, or any violation of due process in public procurement will not be tolerated.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Fatai Onafowote, delivered this warning at the opening of a two-day induction programme for the officers.

According to a statement, he cautioned that any officer caught engaging in fraudulent procurement activities would face severe legal consequences.

Onafowote reminded the officers of their crucial role in safeguarding public resources and ensuring transparency in government transactions.

He emphasized that procurement was not an avenue for personal enrichment but a responsibility that required integrity and accountability.

“You must brace up for the challenges ahead and be prepared to make sacrifices to keep the Lagos Public Service vibrant and progressive. Any officer found guilty of breaching procurement regulations—either deliberately or through negligence—will face strict disciplinary actions,” he warned.

He further stressed that procurement officers must strictly adhere to laid-down rules and regulations, adding that any attempt to manipulate procurement processes would attract serious penalties.

The DG urged the inductees to demonstrate discipline, diligence, and teamwork in their roles, stating that loyalty, innovation, and professionalism remain highly valued in the Lagos State Public Service.

The Lagos State Government has consistently reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and inefficiency in the public sector.
