The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission has announced its intention to enforce regulations and licensing for operators in the sector in a bid to ensure compliance and uphold standards within the packaged water services industry.

During a recent meeting with the Executive members of the Association for Table Water Producers in Alausa, Ikeja, Mrs. ‘Funke Adepoju, the Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, emphasized the importance of reinforcing guidelines for packaged water services.

The meeting aimed to enhance compliance with existing regulations, particularly among key stakeholders in the industry.

Adepoju highlighted the significance of collaboration for the delivery of safe water to Lagosians, stressing the collective responsibility of industry stakeholders.

She said,” We must continue to work together to ensure that anyone or organisation involved in water provision delivers wholesome water to Lagosians”.

She informed the Association about LASWARCO’s initiatives to introduce certification plaques for licensed and compliant operators.

These plaques, serving as a mark of quality assurance, will be prominently displayed on certified operators’ premises and delivery vehicles.

Additionally, LASWARCO plans to automate and streamline various processes, including registration, license application, identity generation, document uploading, and payment procedures.

Adepoju emphasized that the guidelines issued by LASWARCO, aligned with the Environmental Management Protection Law of 2017, would apply to Packaged Water Services Operators in Lagos State.

In response, the Chairperson of the Association, Mrs. Omolabake Mosaku, commended LASWARCO for its open-door policy and expressed the Association’s commitment to collaborating further with the Lagos State Government.

She stated, “As law-abiding citizens, we are excited about the proposed plaques of quality assurance and are ready to comply with the Law geared towards best practices and improved service delivery. We look forward to working closely with the Commission through enhanced coordination of our members.”
