The Lagos State Government has announced plans to close parts of the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge for 110 days starting Saturday, June 28, to carry out long-overdue repairs.

The project, expected to be completed by October 15, will be done in eight stages, with each phase involving partial lane closures.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the first four phases will focus on the part of the bridge leading to Alapere and will last from June 28 to August 16. The remaining phases, from August 16 to October 5, will target the section leading to Oworonshoki.

Osiyemi said that only 50 meters of the road before and after each repair zone will be closed at any point. This, he said, is to reduce traffic problems along the route.

Motorists were urged to make use of alternative roads. For example, those coming from Iyana Oworo can pass through Gbagada and connect to Anthony to access Ikorodu Road. Also, drivers coming from Eko Bridge can go through Funsho Williams Avenue to link up with Ikorodu Road.

He assured that traffic officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be on the ground to manage movement and reduce delays.

He added, “We know this project will affect many road users, but it is necessary to improve the safety and quality of the bridge. We appeal to Lagosians to be patient and cooperate with our officers.”

The bridge repair was previously postponed but is now set to begin after this final notice. Residents and daily commuters are advised to plan their trips ahead and expect some delays around the work zones during the period of construction.
