The Lagos State Government has announced plans to prosecute a woman, identified as Nwakwo Patient, for allegedly disposing of refuse at an unauthorized location in Alimosho.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed on Monday that the suspect was apprehended on March 13, 2025, at about 7:47 a.m. near Alimosho Bus Stop along New Ipaja Road.
“Further investigations at her residence confirmed the absence of a designated waste storage facility.
While the suspect claimed to be registered with the Private Sector Participant operator servicing the area, she was unable to provide any supporting evidence of such registration or payment for waste collection services,” Wahab stated in a post on X.
The commissioner emphasized that the government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
The state government has repeatedly warned residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, stressing that violators would face legal consequences to ensure proper waste management and environmental sanitation.
