The Lagos State government has promised to pay off all outstanding pensions by the end of 2023.

This was revealed by Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, in a media briefing on Monday.

He also said that the state government was committed to improving and enhancing the skills of the civil service to meet the 21st-century public service goals as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda.

The commissioner, who spoke at his office in Alausa, Ikeja, said that the government had been paying pensions regularly to its retirees and was known as the best state in pension administration compliance in the country.

Mr. Governor has shown more resolve and dedication to clear the pension backlog and we expect that this will be done by the end of 2023 and those who retire from 2024 will receive their benefits without delay,” Ayatanyo said.

He also emphasized that the government was ready to continue to invest in capacity building for the state’s workforce, stating that the government would increase the frequency and quality of learning and development programs in the shortest time possible.
