The Lagos Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, also known as the Task Force, has arrested 17 suspects during raids across various locations in the state.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Task Force spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, the raids took place in areas such as Gowon Estate, 31 Road, Okunola Road, Wole Omooso, Blessjar, and Idoani.

During the operation, officers recovered counterfeit naira notes in ₦200 and ₦500 denominations. They also found a large stash of illicit substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotic drugs, and other controlled substances.

The Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental order and ensure the safety of Lagos residents.

“Our operation reflects the zero-tolerance policy of the Lagos State government against illegal activities that threaten the peace and security of our communities,” Akerele said.

He added that this was the third in a series of crackdowns aimed at eradicating the use of illicit substances and reducing hooliganism in the state.

“The suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue. We remain committed to ridding Lagos of criminal elements that endanger the peace and serenity of our residents,” Akerele added.

He encouraged Lagos residents to report any suspicious activities through the state’s “See Something, Say Something” initiative.

“We urge the public to stay alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to create a crime-free society,” he said.
