Lagos shuts Falomo Bridge for six weeks rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government on Friday announced that the Falomo Bridge in Ikoyi would be closed for a six-week remedial work with effect from Sunday, March 14, 2021.

The development was revealed in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde.

Oladeinde stated that the approval for the closure has been secured from the Federal Government to allow room for effective rehabilitation of the bridge which would be completed on April 30, 2021.

“The repair works will run on a 24-hour shift in phases to enable the contractor complete repairs within the estimated time and minimize the expected inconveniences on the road users,” he said.

The commissioner further explained that the first stage of repairs will cover the Victoria Island-bound lane of the bridge, adding that motorists heading towards the axis would be diverted to the Ikoyi bound lanes to create a counter-flow.

He also said while the Ikoyi bound lane will be closed down for the second stage of rehabilitation works, in a similar fashion, motorists will be diverted to other lanes.

Oladeinde assured that “sufficient signage would be put up to guide motorists as well as traffic management personnel deployed to help motorists navigate their ways home with ease”.

He also stated that as the Nigerian Railway Modernisation Project (Lagos-Ibadan section) that will extend to the Apapa Ports gathers momentum, Badia Junction and Gaskiya level crossings would be closed from 9.30 pm on Sunday, 14th to 6.00 am on Monday, 15th March, 2021.

The Commissioner, therefore, advised motorists going to Badia from Ijora 7up to navigate their way through Marine Bridge to link Boundary inwards Olayinka Street to connect Gaskiya Road to access Badia, adding that motorists going to Badia from Lagos-Badagry Expressway are to utilise Orile inwards Sari-Iganmu Road inwards Gaskiya Road to connect Badia.

The state government also said Abule-Nla and Brewery Level Crossings will be closed for construction works on the rail track from 9:30pm on Friday 12th March, to 6:00 am Saturday 13th March, 2021 in continuation of the Railway Modernisation Project.
