The Lagos State Government has sealed Ejanla Restaurant, located at No. 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, for discharging untreated sewage into public drains.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed this in a post on X on Thursday, saying the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) carried out the enforcement after discovering the restaurant’s illegal activity.
Wahab said, “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Thursday, 13th November 2025, sealed off Ejanla Restaurant at No. 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, Lagos, for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via a pumping machine, causing offensive odour in the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution, and endangering human life.”
He warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated in the state. “Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions or prosecution,” he said.
The sealing of Ejanla Restaurant is part of an ongoing enforcement drive against businesses violating environmental laws. In recent months, several eateries and hotels have been shut down for similar offences.
In one case, the state government sealed a branch of Chicken Republic on Agungi Ajiran Road, Lekki, for releasing wastewater into public drains. Another fast-food outlet, Cravings & More, was shut down in Egbeda-Idimu for discharging kitchen waste and oil into the drainage system, which caused blockages, foul odours, and flies.
Lagos authorities say improper sewage disposal remains a major public health concern. Officials warn that untreated wastewater in public drains can cause flooding and spread diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
The LSWMO, under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, is responsible for monitoring and regulating wastewater management across the state. The agency continues to inspect facilities to ensure compliance with environmental standards and has vowed to prosecute defaulters.
