The Lagos State Government has shut down the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market in Mushin over repeated environmental violations.
The market, located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, was sealed on Sunday.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closure in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“This morning, the Lagos State government sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to repeated environmental infractions, including indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median and highway, as well as illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos,” Wahab wrote.
According to the government, the action followed ongoing concerns about poor waste disposal and traders operating illegally on roadsides within and around the market.
Ladipo Market, one of the largest spare parts hubs in Lagos, has previously faced sanctions for similar offences.
In 2023, the state government reopened the market after traders complied with environmental and sanitation requirements and met approved waste management standards.
At the time, Wahab said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was committed to maintaining environmental cleanliness, protecting public health and ensuring safety across the state under its THEMES Plus agenda.
He stressed then that all markets in Lagos must follow proper waste management practices and environmental rules.
Sunday’s closure signals renewed enforcement by the state government as it moves to enforce compliance and maintain environmental standards across major markets in Lagos.
