Occupants of residential and office buildings around a construction site at 28 Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, have called on the Lagos State Government to intervene in the ongoing project.
They claim that the site, managed by Diplomat Homes Limited, poses a significant threat to lives and property due to alleged violations of basic safety standards.
Residents assert that the developers have failed to implement adequate protective measures, including barricades, safety nets, and protective shields.
This oversight has resulted in damage to vehicles and property in adjacent compounds, with falling construction materials destroying walls, windows, ceilings, and vehicles, accordion to Daily Post.
The residents are deeply concerned about the potential for serious injuries or fatalities if the issue is not addressed.
“It is only by God’s grace that no one has been hit so far,” one affected occupant lamented.
They have questioned the silence of relevant state agencies, particularly the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, calling for proactive steps to enforce compliance with safety standards before a tragedy occurs.
