A Lagos State resident, David Adeyemi, has been jailed for six months for attacking a staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

Adeyemi was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of assault.

Reports said the convict had connected his apartment at Makanjuola area of Apapa after it was disconnected.

Daily Post reported that his illegal connection was detected by the EKEDC employee who scolded him.

Rather than feel remorseful, Adeyemi was said to have punched him in the face, inflicting an injury.

The citizen was arrested and subsequently charged to court by the police.

The Magistrate, Mrs. T. N. Idowu found Adeyemi guilty and sentenced him to 6 months in prison.

Idowu ordered his remand in the Ikoyi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

In a statement on Monday, EKEDC GM Corporate Communications, Godwin Idemudia condemned vandalization and attacks on electricity workers.

“It is unbelievable that these acts still happen despite several appeals to customers to make use of our complaints resolution channels.

“It is rather barbaric to inflict injury on another person while carrying out his lawful duties”, Idemudia said.
