The Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Fatai Onafowote, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to eliminating corrupt practices in public procurement.

Onafowote also commended the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme for its continuous support in training procurement officers across the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Oladapo Olatunde, noted that Onafowote made these remarks during the opening ceremony of a two-day training programme on strategic and sustainable procurement, organised in collaboration with RULAC.

Speaking at the event, Onafowote emphasised that RULAC’s objectives align with the Lagos State government’s policies on inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.

He explained that the training was designed to equip procurement officers with practical skills and legal knowledge to address challenges, ensure compliance with due process, and promote strategic and sustainable procurement practices in the state.

“The agency will continue to partner with RULAC and similar organisations that share our objectives and those of the state government. Public procurement plays a crucial role in managing public resources and delivering services effectively to the people of Lagos, which in turn enhances good governance,” Onafowote said.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the training, stressing the need for diligence and adherence to due process.

Lead consultant Chibuzor Ekwekwuo also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of considering environmental impact assessments and project sustainability. He noted that public procurement should focus not just on cost but also on the social, environmental, health, and economic implications of projects.

Lagos State Coordinator of RULAC, Ajibola Ijimakinwa, praised the procurement agency for its efforts in promoting transparency, eliminating corruption, and strengthening the rule of law in procurement processes.
