The Lagos State Government has announced plans to install 3,000 electronic police (e-police) and speed limit cameras across the state to strengthen traffic law enforcement and enhance road safety.
The Director of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Akin-George Fashola, disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking on Lagos Transport Trends and Perspectives, programme sponsored by the state’s Ministry of Transportation on Traffic Radio 96.1 FM.
Fashola revealed that motorists caught exceeding speed limits would be fined N50,000.
However, he noted that offenders who believe they were wrongly penalized could contest the fine by providing proof of compliance.
The VIS Director also announced the introduction of an online roadworthiness recertification system, allowing vehicle owners to renew their certificates without visiting a VIS office.
According to him, the initiative aims to streamline the process, improve convenience for motorists, and reduce congestion at VIS centres.
In addition to the digital roadworthiness recertification, Fashola stated that the VIS has launched an auto verification service for individuals looking to buy used vehicles.
The service provides a comprehensive history of the vehicle, enabling prospective buyers to make informed decisions before purchasing.
He encouraged Lagos residents to visit the VIS website or any of the 45 VIS centres across the state for accurate information and assistance regarding vehicle safety and compliance.
