Lagos police rescue baby sold N800k by housemaid

The Lagos Police Command has successfully rescued an eight-month-old baby, sold for N800,000 in the Ikorodu area of the state. 

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the baby’s rescue via a post on his social media handle on Monday morning.

“Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu,” Hundeyin stated. “The baby was promptly rescued by the police,” he added.

Hundeyin further informed that the baby has been reunited with her parents after positive identification. The Lagos State Police continues efforts to apprehend the buyer, who is currently on the run.

Investigations revealed that the baby was reportedly sold by a maid named Ruth Okezie on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

Recall that the baby, allegedly sold by a maid named Ruth Okezie, was abducted in the early hours of Saturday, February 3. 

A close acquaintance of the baby’s father, Danilton recounted the distressing events on social media, stating, “An eyewitness observed that the maid appeared to be under some form of influence. Our hopes are pinned on the safe return of the baby. The maid confessed to selling the baby for N800,000.”
