The Lagos State Police Command has successfully thwarted a potential armed robbery operation with the arrest of Johnson Ogunsanya, a suspected armed robber found in possession of a locally fabricated firearm.
The arrest was made by vigilant patrol officers from the Owode Onirin Division.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, shared the details of the operation via his official social media handle on Tuesday. According to SP Hundeyin, the patrol officers, engaged in diligent surveillance in the area, stumbled upon a group of individuals suspected to be part of a robbery gang preparing to commence their illicit activities.
Upon closer inspection, the officers observed the suspicious behavior of the individuals, leading them to intervene and inquire about the situation.
In response, the suspects attempted to flee the scene, but the swift action of the officers resulted in the apprehension of one of the culprits.
The apprehended suspect was identified as Johnson Ogunsanya, a 31-year-old individual. In a significant discovery, he was found to be in possession of a locally crafted firearm.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed, “Ongoing investigation reveals it was a robbery in progress,” underscoring the effectiveness of the police intervention in preventing a potentially dangerous criminal act.
