Emergency responders have successfully contained the fire that broke out at the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House.

The blaze, which had spread to the nearby mosque and surrounding structures, has now been largely brought under control.

Authorities confirmed that the adjoining Oluwole Plaza has been salvaged, with most goods and stalls preserved despite partial damage.

Other nearby buildings, including the seven-storey Radio Nigeria building opposite the high-rise, were also successfully protected. Dampening down operations continue at the affected sites to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

Several victims were affected in the incident. Seven adult males suffered various degrees of burns and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Additionally, three males and two females received first aid for smoke inhalation at the scene before being released. Emergency responders noted that the intensity of heat and smoke has significantly reduced due to coordinated firefighting efforts.

Recovery operations are ongoing as authorities work to fully assess the extent of the damage. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
