Two men have been remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after being charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl, who was reportedly impregnated during the ordeal.
Alfred Samuel, a 32-year-old driver, and his friend Ikechukwu Obi, a 29-year-old labourer, appeared before Magistrate S.O. Obasa at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The court did not take their plea but ordered them to remain in custody until April 4, when the Director of Public Prosecution is expected to provide legal advice on the case.
According to Inspector Innocent Odugbo, the prosecutor, the alleged crimes took place between October 2024 and January 2025 at Samuel’s residence. The victim is Samuel’s stepdaughter.
“The first defendant raped the girl and got her pregnant,” Odugbo told the court. “The second defendant, who is a friend to the first defendant, came to visit him and also raped the pregnant girl.”
The court heard that the teenager eventually escaped from the house and was rescued by a good Samaritan who took her to the police station, where she reported the alleged crimes.
The two men face charges of conspiracy and rape, which contravene Sections 137 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. If found guilty, they could face severe penalties under Nigerian law, which imposes harsh sentences for sexual offenses against minors.
Child protection advocates have expressed concern over the case, highlighting the vulnerability of children in blended families and calling for stronger protective measures for minors.
