The Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, says the State has commenced its COVID-19 vaccine inoculation of frontline health workers in three major health facilities today.

He identified the three designated centres as Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba; Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta.

Abayomi, however, reiterated that the state hospital vaccination exercise was strictly meant for frontline health workers.

“At this point in time, we are commencing the flag-off today at three centres right here in Yaba – Infectious Disease Hospital, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital -LASUTH and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta.

“At these sites, we are going to be vaccinating all the frontline workers today and over the next couple of days to ensure that we are protecting our selfless and hardworking COVID-19 frontline, essential working staff, as a matter of priority,” the commissioner revealed.

Recall that WuzupNigeria had earlier reported that the state received 507,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 9.

While welcoming the consignment, Lagos Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso had reassured Lagosians that the “details of the vaccine rollout will be clearly articulated to the public by the Incident Commander, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has inaugurated a multi-stakeholder COVID-19 Vaccine Access and Distribution Committee which will be chaired by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.”
