The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against violating the state’s traffic laws, saying that offenders will be prosecuted under the law.

The warning was issued during a one-day sensitization program organized by the Special Offences Court on Thursday.

The program, which was themed “Zero Tolerance for Violation of Traffic Laws at Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos,” was in line with the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda of transportation and traffic management.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, represented by the Director for Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Martins on Sunday during a one-day sensitization program organized by the Mobile Court, reiterated the government’s stance on zero tolerance for traffic violations, such as driving in a direction prohibited by law, plying the designated Bus Rapid Transit corridor and obstructing vehicular movement on the highway.

Pedro urged road users to partner with the state government towards overcoming traffic challenges, urging them not to stand aloof but to play their roles to ensure the free traffic flow on the highway.

The coordinator of the Mobile Court, Arinola Banjoko, also warned that the penalty for one-way driving is forfeiture.

“The penalty for driving against traffic (one-way) is forfeiture under the State Transport law 2018 and there is no fine for that,” she said.

The Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of road users, and it is urging motorists to obey the traffic laws.
