The Lagos State Government has impounded 241 unlicensed vehicles during an enforcement operation carried out by the Vehicle Inspection Service.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement on Monday.

Mr. Osiyemi explained that the operation was conducted in line with Sections 15 and 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, which aims to ensure vehicles comply with proper registration requirements.

“Driving unregistered vehicles is a violation of our transportation laws and poses a serious threat to law enforcement efforts. These vehicles make it harder to track stolen cars or those involved in criminal activities,” Osiyemi said.

The commissioner also revealed that a fake dealer number plate was discovered on one of the impounded cars, and investigations are underway to find and prosecute those responsible for issuing the fraudulent plate.

“Motorists must follow the state’s traffic regulations. By doing so, they will help create a safer and more secure environment for all road users,” Osiyemi added.

The Lagos government has urged all drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and to avoid the use of fake or unregistered plates.
