The Lagos State Government has urged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters to shun violence and respect the sanctity of physical structures.
According to the PUNCH, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, made the call in Alausa on Friday.
Olumide, reinforcing the Lagos State Government’s position, asserted that the situation called for sober reflection rather than protest, given the genuine efforts of the government at all levels to bring relief to the people.
He said, “Protesters should refrain from destroying physical structures that serve the people’s residential, commercial, and institutional needs.
Rather than violence and destruction, this period calls for everyone to be circumspect and particularly respect the sanctity of buildings, considering the values attached to them, the high cost of erecting them, and their important functions in society, including their accommodation and aesthetic values.”
He noted that physical structures across the state added to Lagos’s alluring landscape and helped project its cultural heritage.
He urged, “All hands must be on deck to build a liveable, organized, orderly, and sustainable physical environment.”
