The Lagos State Government has announced plans to investigate the recent invasion of the Ikeja Electric corporate headquarters by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
In a statement on Saturday, the Commissioner for Energy, Biodun Ogunleye, described the attack as unacceptable, assuring the public that justice would be served for all victims.
“The safety and well-being of all citizens, including employees of electricity distribution companies, remain a top priority for the Lagos State Government,” Ogunleye said.
He confirmed that the government is working closely with relevant authorities to uncover the full details of the incident.
The attack reportedly happened after Ikeja Electric disconnected electricity supply to the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base over unpaid debts. Armed military personnel allegedly stormed the company’s office, vandalising property worth millions of Naira and assaulting staff members.
Ogunleye urged all parties to handle disputes peacefully and through legal means. “We call on the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force to take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,” he added.
While recognising the need for strong relationships between the government and stakeholders, including the armed forces, Ogunleye stressed that violence and intimidation would not be tolerated in Lagos.
The Lagos government has assured the public that investigations will be thorough and transparent, and those responsible for the attack will face appropriate legal consequences.
