The Lagos State Government has announced that Eko Bridge will be closed for emergency repairs starting Monday, September 16.

The bridge is expected to reopen in the second week of November. The Federal Ministry of Works will handle the repairs.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, shared the news in a statement on Friday.

He explained that the repairs will be done in four phases, causing the bridge to be fully or partially closed at different times.

To help with the traffic changes, Osiyemi advised motorists to use alternative routes:

– Motorists going to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and then access Eko Bridge.

– Another option is to travel to Costain and then use Eko Bridge to reach Apongbon.

– Motorists can also use Apongbon to connect to Eko Bridge and then reach Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.

– For those heading to Surulere, use Costain to link Breweries, then Abebe Village, and connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.

Osiyemi also mentioned that motorists could use Costain to reach Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or go through Apapa Road from Costain to reach Oyingbo and Adekunle, connecting to the Third Mainland Bridge.

To manage traffic flow and reduce delays, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will have officers stationed at key points and alternative routes.

Osiyemi assured that the repair work is necessary to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge. He urged all motorists to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays and disruptions during the repair period.
