Lagos govt seals over 840 event centers over safety violations

The Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed over eight hundred and forty event centres and social facilities over violation of safety laws.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Gbenga Oyerinde made this known while highlighting the achievements of the Ministry in the last one year in a press conference on Monday.

Oyerinde revealed that Lagos State Safety Commission had carried out enforcement action at 840 facilities including event centres, clubs, lounges and hotels, construction sites for safety infractions in the interest of public safety in the last one year.

He stated that the Lagos State Safety Commission has carried out enforcement actions at these facilities to ensure public safety.

The Commission has inspected approximately 7,819 facilities, issuing fire safety compliance certificates to 5,220 of them. Additionally, the Commission has conducted 365 environmental safety advocacy initiatives.

He said “In line with the THEMES Plus developmental Agenda of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to mitigate risks and protect the life and property of government and citizens of Lagos State, we have sealed eight hundred and forty event centres and social facilities for safety violations and non-compliance of extant laws.”

Still speaking at the press conference, Oyerinde mentioned the collaborative efforts with the Ministry of the Environment to improve the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp (Youth Hostel) at Iyana-Ipaja.
