The Lagos State Government has announced a two-day traffic diversion at the Ikeja Along Bus Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, specifically between Ile Zik and Conoil Filling Station on the Oshodi-bound lane.
The diversion will take place from Saturday, August 17, 2024, to Sunday, August 18, 2024, between 12 midnight and 4 am each day.
This temporary change is necessary to allow workers to safely demolish the old pedestrian bridge in the area.
This information was shared on Thursday via the X handle of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
The statement highlighted that only one lane will be available to motorists “from Ile Zik Bus Stop up to Conoil Filling Station on the Oshodi-bound side of the road.”
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured the public that the traffic diversion will not affect motorists on the Dopemu/Abule Egba bound side of the road during the demolition.
He added, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on the ground to manage vehicular movement and minimise inconveniences.”
Mr. Osiyemi urged motorists to remain patient during this period, explaining that the closure is part of the traffic management plans for the safe removal of the old pedestrian bridge by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.
“The lanes will be cordoned off with jersey barriers and protective nets to keep motorists and commuters safe during the period of the demolition,” he said.
