The Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, has reaffirmed its commitment to the January 31st, 2024 deadline for all Employers of Labour to submit their annual tax returns.
The executive chairman of LIRS, Mr Ayodele Subair, emphasized this in an official statement released by the agency.
Subair highlighted the importance of adhering to the deadline, warning that failure to comply would lead to penalties and other statutory sanctions outlined in section 81(3) of the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2011.
He urged employers of labour with businesses located within Lagos State to take the deadline seriously.
“The exclusive platform for filing annual income tax returns in Lagos State is the LIRS e-Tax portal, and manual filing is no longer permissible,” reiterated Mr Subair.
He encouraged businesses and employers to utilize the e-Tax portal, emphasizing its user-friendly, convenient, and secure nature.
He stated, “The e-Tax portal is designed for the convenience of taxpayers, making tax transactions easily accessible from the comfort of homes and offices.”
He stressed the mandatory requirement for all employers to have a Taxpayer ID and use it to file their annual income tax returns on the e-Tax portal.
Employers within the state are advised to generate a taxpayer ID for their employees where applicable and file their P.A.Y.E returns through the e-Tax portal.
In accordance with applicable tax legislation, the LIRS reminded employers to fulfill their obligations by submitting their annual tax returns on or before the stipulated deadline to avoid legal consequences.
