Lagos firefighters rescue man who fell into manhole

A 55-year-old man who slipped into an underground drainage along Ikorodu Road, near Idiroko Bus Stop inward Maryland, was rescued alive by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

According to the agency, the incident happened on Saturday around 12:24 p.m., and firefighters from the Ilupeju Fire Station were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the rescue team arrived at about 12:45 p.m. and began a coordinated operation using confined-space rescue tools.

“Upon arrival, our personnel discovered that a middle-aged man had accidentally fallen into an underground manhole. The team immediately began a delicate rescue operation using proper safety procedures to ensure his safe recovery,” she said.

The man was safely brought out of the drainage after the operation and handed over to emergency medical personnel for evaluation.
