The Lagos State Government has sent some female students, who were seen in a viral video smoking shisha, to rehab.

WuzupNigeria reports that the video of the five students of Oreyo Senior Grammar School, Igbogbo in Ikorodu had gone viral on Friday, 16 April 2021 after it was shared on Twitter.

In the video, the girls were seen in an apartment while still dressed in school uniform inhaling and puffing away from the pipe while an unseen person recorded the video.

However, days after the video went online, the  Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth and Social Development identified the girls and has sent them to rehab.

It was gathered that the identified students were later suspended by the school authorities.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab, said the administration will go tough on such acts.

Tokunbo noted that “appropriate steps are been taken to address the issue with the aim of preventing future occurrence in the state. The appropriate ministry is already intervening. You see why the role of parents is so critical. We can’t leave everything to government and school. This is heart-wrenching.”

Shisha smoking is a way of inhaling tobacco, sometimes mixed with fruit or molasses sugar, through the mouthpiece of a bowl hose or tube1.

Although the practice of shisha smoking started in the Middle East, it has spread to several other parts of the world, including Nigeria.
