Lagos estate agent allegedly defrauds client of N845,000, remanded

An Estate Agent, Nnamdi Paul, on Thursday was arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N845,000 from three of his clients under false pretences.

Paul, 39, of Alapere area in Ketu, Lagos, is being tried on a three-count of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Bassey alleged that the defendant obtained N260,000 from one Amaka Okoro on Sept. 7 at Alapere Ketu.

Bassey said the defendant collected the money on the pretence of renting a one-bedroom apartment to her, knowing the same to be false.

“On a different date in the same month, unknown to the complainant, he had also collected N250,000 from one Kate Ike, N235,000 from one Faith Martins and another N100,000 from Tochi Okonkwo all for the same one bedroom apartment,” the prosecutor said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Daodu adjourned the matter until Nov. 16 for mention.
