The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion at Tincan First Gate in Apapa, inward Mile 2, to facilitate repair works on a damaged pedestrian bridge in the area.

The state Ministry of Transportation made this known in a statement shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the repair works are scheduled for Saturday, December 20, between 9am and 1pm, and will be carried out in two distinct phases.

The ministry explained that the first phase will involve the lifting and placement of bridge beams.

During this operation, vehicular movement from Tincan, Apapa, towards Mile 2 will be completely halted for a brief period.

“The road from Tincan, Apapa to Mile 2 will be completely closed for about 20 minutes during the beam lifting. Traffic will resume immediately after the operation is concluded,” the ministry stated.

The second phase of the work will centre on the lifting and installation of bridge slabs. At this stage, traffic will be partially allowed, with diversions put in place to manage vehicle flow.

“Vehicles moving from Tincan, Apapa to Mile 2 will be diverted to one lane approximately 50 metres before the bridge work area, while full access will be restored about 50 metres after the site. Traffic from Mile 2 to Tincan, Apapa will move freely throughout this phase,” the statement added.

The ministry urged motorists and commuters to remain patient and comply with directives from traffic management personnel, noting that the temporary disruptions are essential to guarantee public safety during the repair process.

It further clarified that the repair works will be executed by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos.
