An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of two men, Olaitan Fasasi, 40, and Kehinde Tobilola, 26, at a correctional facility following their arraignment for attempted murder and alleged cult-related activities.
The duo was brought before the court by officers of the Lagos State Police Command on a three-count charge.
The charges, according to the prosecution, include attempted murder and membership of an unlawful society — offences said to violate multiple sections of the Lagos State Criminal Law and the state’s Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Law.
Prosecuting counsel, Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the alleged crimes were committed on February 15, 2025, around 5:00 p.m. in the Mushin area of Lagos. She stated that Fasasi and Tobilola, along with other accomplices who are currently at large, attempted to kill one Alfred Ademola.
She alleged that the defendants were armed with a locally fabricated firearm and opened fire on the victim in an attempt to take his life.
Ikhayere added that their actions contravened Sections 230(1) and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, as well as Section 2(3)(a)(b)(c)(d) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Law.
Magistrate Lateef Owolabi ruled that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The matter was adjourned to May 21, 2025, for further hearing.
