The Federal High Court in Lagos has launched a new online portal that allows the public to get affidavits without having to visit the court in person.
This new service was introduced by the FHC Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, to align the court with modern digital practices.
During a visit to the court on Friday, our correspondent was shown around the new ICT department by the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar, Mr. Godwin Longe. The department is headed by Mr. Agwu Charles, who explained how the public can use the new portal.
Agwu said, “It is now a norm that the Affidavit for loss of items, age declaration, change of name, etc., can now be done via portal.fhc.gov.ng and following the instructions. What you just need to do is to login to the site: portal.fhc.gov.ng.”
Mr. Longe further clarified that currently, the online portal can only process affidavits that are not related to court cases. “Affidavits filed to support a case are still done manually because of the peculiar disposition in such affidavits,” Longe said.
He emphasized the convenience of the new system, stating, “People should be aware that henceforth, they don’t necessarily have to be physically present to procure the type of affidavits mentioned above.”
This move is expected to make it easier and faster for individuals to obtain necessary legal documents without the need to travel to the court, marking a significant step towards digital transformation in the judiciary system.
