Lagos court grants bail to alleged phone thief, Gafar Ismail

The Police in Lagos State on Wednesday arraigned a 28-year-old man, Gafar Ismail, in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two phones and N30,000 cash.

Ismail, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nko, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 13, at Gbaji Bridge in Badagry area of Lagos State.

Nko alleged that the defendant stole an Itel P36 cell phone valued at N38,500 property of Moses Semako.

“The defendant also stole one Infinix Smart five cell phone valued at N40,000 and N30,000 cash belonging to James Hunsa.

“Ismail was arrested with the stolen property and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80, 000, with one surety in like sum.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until April 11, for mention.
