Afrobeat superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, thrilled fans with an emotional homecoming declaration during his performance at the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025.
The event, organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, took place at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, and drew thousands of attendees.
Addressing the audience, Wizkid expressed his joy at being back home. “First of all, Happy New Year. You’ll be rich, you’ll live long with your family,” he said.
“I have a very important message for you today, Lagos, Nigeria. I want you to know that your son, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, Machala, that I’m back home now,” he declared, sparking loud cheers from fans.
The countdown event featured performances from top Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Phyno, Niniola, and Seyi Vibez. Fireworks lit up the Lagos skyline as attendees celebrated the transition into the new year with excitement and hope.
