The Lagos State Government has sealed a three-storey residential building in Ilasan, Lekki Peninsula II, for illegally discharging dirty water and human waste into public drains.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office said the building, located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, was caught pumping untreated wastewater into nearby roads, drainage systems, and even the lagoon, especially at night.

According to a statement shared on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page on May 24, 2025, the act was reported by a whistleblower.

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has continued to show its dedication to proper wastewater control,” the agency said. “This building was sealed after it was discovered to be using a pumping machine at night to push untreated waste into public drains, roads, and water bodies.”

Officials said this illegal discharge is dangerous to people’s health and can lead to the spread of serious diseases. It also puts the local environment and nearby water sources at risk.

“This is a deliberate act that exposes the public to communicable diseases,” the statement added.

The General Manager of LSWMO thanked the whistleblower for reporting the issue and urged other residents to speak up if they notice similar cases in their communities.

“All reports will be kept secret, and we will continue to take strong steps to protect people’s health and the environment,” he said.

The agency promised to remain active in monitoring and taking action against those who break environmental laws.
