A 31-year-old businessman, Anaka Onyedika, has been remanded in Kirikiri prison after being charged for threatening to kill a fellow businessman with the use of an Okija shrine.
The case was heard at Magistrate’s Court 5, Ogba, Lagos, on Thursday with Magistrate Owolabi L. A presiding.
The police prosecutor, Supol Josephine, presented a four-count charge against the suspect. Onyedika was alleged to have conspired with others on December 13, 2023, to commit felony, including written threats to life and cyberstalking.
The charges fall under section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charges outlined the accusations: “That you, Anaka Onyedika, on the same date, time and place, knowingly sent a threatening message to one Patrick Ogbonna in that you are going to use both day and night to pursue him and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 232 of the Criminal Lagos state, 2015. That you, Anaka Onyedika, knowingly sent a threatening message to one Patrick Ogbonna that his cup is full, whatever he sees, he will take and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
Furthermore, the charges detailed an incident on December 17, 2023, where Onyedika and others intentionally sent a video via phone of a man killed and placed inside a casket.
The victim, Patrick Ogbonna, was threatened with a similar fate if he failed to honor an invitation from the Okija Shrine. This act falls under section 24(1)(2)(a)(1) of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.
When the case came before Magistrate Owolola L. A, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate ordered Onyedika’s remand at Kirikiri prison until he fulfills the bail conditions of N300,000 and provides two sureties with three years’ tax clearance, all subject to verification by the court register.
