A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Ora Arinze, a dealer in auto spare parts, to two and a half years in prison after he admitted to attempting to export 300 grams of cocaine to Congo Brazzaville.

According to PM news, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency apprehended Arinze on September 11, 2024, at the export shed of Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

NDLEA operatives discovered the cocaine concealed in containers of Checkers Powder Custard, which were packed alongside auto spare parts intended for export via Ethiopian Airlines.

Following the discovery, a follow-up investigation led to Arinze’s arrest at his shop located at Aspanda Trade Fair Auto Parts Wing, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State.

The NDLEA’s prosecuting counsel, Barrister Bibiana Anagu, charged Arinze with unlawfully exporting cocaine, an offense punishable under Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act.

When the charge was read in court, Arinze pleaded guilty. His lawyer requested leniency, citing his decision not to delay the court proceedings.

After considering the plea, the judge sentenced him to two and a half years in prison. The NDLEA has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking in Nigeria.
