The Lagos State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Mojisola Meranda as the substantive Speaker, dismissing speculations about her possible resignation.

During Monday’s plenary session, Oladipo Ajomale, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2, moved a motion reaffirming the Assembly’s trust in Meranda’s leadership.

Ajomale emphasized that Meranda was duly elected in accordance with the Nigerian constitution and other relevant laws.

“We have elected you, who we believe in as the Speaker. We will display here, live and clear, for people to see that this decision was made by members of the State House of Assembly, duly elected,” Ajomale stated.

In a show of solidarity, all lawmakers stood and raised their hands to affirm their confidence in her leadership.

Following the vote of confidence, the House adjourned its plenary session indefinitely.

This development comes amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the Assembly, which escalated earlier on Monday when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police stormed the complex, sealing the offices of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Clerk of the House.

Despite the heavy security presence, Meranda presided over Monday’s legislative session, reaffirming her position as Speaker.

The crisis follows the recent removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, which has heightened tensions within the Assembly.
