A 56-year-old man, Christian Osuwa, was on Friday arraigned in an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging a medical report for his friend and perverting the course of justice.
Osuwa, who resides in Idumota area of Lagos State, is charged with conspiracy, forgery and perverting justice.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court on March 7, the defendant and some others forged a medical report with reference no /MAUTH/ADM/027/2022 RE: Samuel Kuranchai. (his friend)
He said on March 9, about 9.30 a.m. in Ogudu, the defendant with intent to pervert the course of justice, presented a forged medical report.
The prosecutor said the forged medical report, which emanated from Imo State University Teaching Hospital, stated that a defendant, Samuel Kuranchi who Is standing trial in Ogudu Courts suffered a stroke and has been hospitalized.
He said that the defendants act , allowed Kuranachi, a defendant in charge no OG/39/2021 from attending court to face his trial.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97(1), 365(1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant denied committing the crime
In her ruling, the Magistrate O.M. Ajayi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ajayi ruled that the sureties must be verified and provide evidence of tax payment and one of them must be a civil servant.
She said that if the defendant failed to meet the bail conditions, he should be remanded in a Correctional Centre.
The magistrate adjourned the matter until March 16 for hearing.
