Lagos APC denies allegations of ethnic marginalisation

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has dismissed accusations suggesting that Igbos and other ethnic groups are being marginalised or treated as second-class citizens in the state.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, described the claims as unfounded and a form of political blackmail. He accused some politicians who lost elections of spreading the narrative to deflect blame.

“That’s cheap blackmail. Lagos has always been and remains the most accommodating state in Nigeria. No one is treated as a second class citizen here. The Igbos and other ethnic groups thrive in Lagos because the state provides equal opportunities for all,” Oladejo stated.

He emphasised that Lagos continues to offer a level playing field for all Nigerians, regardless of their background, adding that the achievements of the Igbo community and others in the state speak volumes about its inclusive environment.

The APC spokesperson further noted that the state will remain home to people from across the country. According to him, the success stories of non-indigenes in Lagos highlight the state’s welcoming disposition rather than any form of hostility.

“Those peddling the hostility narrative are politicians who lost elections and are looking for scapegoats. Lagos is home to all, and APC remains committed to protecting that heritage. Truly, when a stranger prospers in your land, it is a testimony to your hospitality, not hostility,” he added.
