A Nigerian lady, Chinonye Favour, has publicly apologised to popular skit maker and actor, Victor Nwaogu, better known as Nkubi, after she made a controversial post about his daughter.
The drama started when Favour shared a photo of Nkubi’s daughter on Facebook and captioned it “Main Labubu,” comparing the child to the now-viral scary cartoon toy character.
The post quickly sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling the comment insensitive and demanding justice for Nkubi’s family.
As the backlash grew, Favour released two separate apology videos online. In one of the videos, she claimed she had no idea who Nkubi or his daughter was at the time of the post.
“I made a post that has gone viral, and first things first, I want to apologise to the family of Nkubi and his daughter. I had no idea she’s Nigerian,” she said.
She also denied reports that she deactivated her Facebook account to escape criticism. According to her, her direct messages are still open, and she is ready to talk with Nkubi if he chooses to contact her.
Despite the apology, several Nigerians on social media continued to criticise her actions. Many expressed anger that a child was dragged into an online trend, calling it heartless and unnecessary.
One user, Maryjane Chidozie, said, “Imagine calling someone’s beautiful daughter Labubu. Some people dey crazy, I swear.” Another person, Ify Jennifer Uwakwe, added, “And I’m sure she has not given birth o. Person wey never know wetin she go born.”
Another comment from Ann Ijeoma Uc read, “Ordinary teddy bear wey resemble horror character don dey reign. Leave people’s children out of this nonsense trend.”
Some users even urged Nkubi to take legal action to set an example for others who bully children online.
Nkubi, who is known for his comedy skits and acting, has not yet released an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report. However, many of his fans have stood by him, calling for respect and protection for all children online.
