The Nigeria Labour Congress has reiterated its plan to commence a nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 14, as initially stated, despite a court order restraining such actions.

Fesus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja, highlighting the failure of the federal government to meet the conditions given to avert the strike.

“We said those who brutalized our President should be relieved of their jobs and prosecuted,” Osifo stated, referring to the assault on the NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

Despite the decision of the National Industrial Court in Abuja, which had earlier restrained the NLC, Trade Union Congress, and their affiliates from embarking on any strike or industrial action, the unions remained resolute in their decision.

“At 12 midnight on Tuesday, all the arms of the NLC have been mobilized to start strike action,” Osifo declared.

The decision to strike came after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting where the unions expressed their dissatisfaction with the handling of the assault on Joe Ajaero and declared the total nationwide strike.

The federal government had filed an ex-parte application, urging the court to stop the unions from proceeding with the planned strike.
