Atletico Madrid return to the top of the La Liga standings on Sunday night after a 1-1 draw against Real Betis.

Diego Simeone’s men missed the chance to go three points clear of Real Madrid but the score was a fair result for the Atletico team.

The visitors started the game brightly and got rewarded after five minutes through Yannick Carrasco who made it 1-0.

Simeone’s men failed to capitalised on the early lead and watched as Manuel Pellegrini’s side pulled one back through former Barcelona player, Cristiano Tello.

Neither sides did enough to win the game but Luis Suarez’ absence up front was felt by Atletico as they failed to convert clear chances.

Atletico suffered another blow up front after Joao Felix was forced off in the second half due to an injury picked up late in the first half.

Jan Oblak and Claudio Bravo pulled impressive saves to ensure that neither side conceded more than a goal from four shots on target from their respective sides.

There are now three points between Atletico, Real and Barcelona with eight games left to wrap up the season.
