Kwara varsity deputy bursar dies while watching Nigeria, S’Africa AFCON match
The deputy bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, Alh. Ayuba Abdullahi, passed away on Wednesday night while watching the semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing 2023 AFCON tournament.
According to sources, Abdullahi was watching the game at a viewing center in the Sango area of Ilorin metropolis when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“Ayuba watched the game till the end of the extra time when he felt uncomfortable and was rushed to a private hospital in the area where he gave up the ghost,” revealed a source.
The deputy bursar had watched the match from start to finish, expressing discomfort during the penalty shootout.
He decided to return home to rest, unaware that his blood pressure had surged.
Upon reaching home, he collapsed and was swiftly taken to a private hospital in Sango. However, he was subsequently referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where, unfortunately, he passed away before receiving medical attention.
Ayuba Abdullahi was laid to rest on Thursday morning in Ilorin, following Islamic funeral rites.
The director of public relations of KWASU, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, confirmed the tragic incident.
“This is to announce the death of Mr. Ayuba Olaitan Abdullahi of Bursary Department. Janazah will hold this morning, and his remains will be interred at the Hausa Muslim cemetery, Apata Yakuba, Oyun area, Ilorin, at 9 am. May Allah forgive all his sins and grant him Aljannah firdaus. Aameen,” Aliyu stated in a Thursday morning announcement.
