A female corps member serving in Kwara State was allegedly assaulted on Thursday by teachers at Government Day Junior Secondary School in the Kulende area of Ilorin, the state capital.

The incident reportedly occurred because she did not greet the teachers “properly.”

According to Tribune, the corps member had visited the school to collect her clearance letter when a teacher attacked her, tearing her NYSC white T-shirt. Another teacher allegedly joined in and slapped her.

The incident has caused public outrage, with many calling for accountability and condemning the abuse of power within educational institutions.

The head of the National Youth Service Corps’s Information and Public Relations in Kwara State, Morakinyo Oladipo, confirming the incident described the attack as unacceptable and stated that the scheme was taking steps to address the matter.

“The story is true, and we’re writing a rejoinder. All necessary steps have been taken to seek redress for the assaulted corps member,” Oladipo said. “The NYSC has formally informed the state government through the Commissioner for Youth, and immediate action has been taken since the news broke.”

Oladipo added that the corps member would be reposted to another location to help her recover from the trauma.

“The NYSC expresses its displeasure concerning the matter,” he said. “We are expecting a proper investigation, and the law will take its course. Necessary steps will be taken against those who abused the corps member.”
