The Kwara State Police Command has issued a clarification regarding the arrest of Alhaji Abdulganiyu Babaimole, an elderly resident who criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the Tanke Flyover Bridge.

The Kwara Police spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, addressed a report by Sahara Reporters on December 23, 2023, and sought to set the record straight.

Contrary to initial reports, Ejire-Adeyemi stated the fact remains that Babaimole was not arrested at the mosque at 5:30 PM as stated in the report.

Rather, he was apprehended at his residence having returned from the mosque at about 16:20 hours on Friday, 22-12-2023 after observing the Jumat and Sunnah Mu’akkadah prayers.

The police spokesperson explained that two unarmed detectives were deployed to invite Alhaji Babaimole for an interview based on a petition against him.

The detectives found him at his residence in the Pakata area of Ilorin, where he attends to people as an Islamic cleric.

Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized the importance of accuracy in reporting, particularly on sensitive matters, to avoid misconceptions.

She clarified, “The report that it occurred at his residence, having returned from the mosque at about 4:20 pm of the same day and not during the time of worship was incorrect.”

The police spokesperson stressed that the initial narrative was false and unfounded, describing it as an act of disinformation and mischief aimed at sabotaging the efforts of the police command to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

She urged the public to disregard the misinformation and assured that the Kwara State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace during the yuletide season.

In response to the arrest, Ejire-Adeyemi stated, “Consequently, the Kwara State Command urges everyone to disregard this disinformation of Sahara reporters as it is false and misleading.”
