Kwara police arrest five for kidnapping, drug trafficking

Security operatives in Kwara State have arrested five individuals in connection with alleged kidnapping and drug trafficking, following a coordinated operation involving multiple agencies.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrests were made during a joint operation with operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser the Nigeria Forest Security Service, and local vigilante groups.

“The joint operation, carried out on 26th September 2025 at about 1600hrs along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, led to the interception of a vehicle loaded with tubers of yams, under which 127 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis were concealed,” the statement read.

Two of the suspects, Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, were arrested at the scene in connection with the cannabis smuggling.

“In a related development, the operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar and Hussain, both from Tsaragi, and Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnapper, who were involved in the invasion of Babanla on 08/08/25. After a discreet investigation, the suspects will be arraigned in court,” the statement added.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekimi Ojo, praised the collaborative effort between the various security agencies and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to maintain peace and order across the state.

He warned that Kwara State would not serve as a refuge for criminal elements, stressing the command’s zero tolerance for crime and drug-related activities.
