The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eight individuals in connection with the tragic case of a two-month-old baby who was reported missing and later found dead in a well in Ilorin.
The incident occurred on May 25, 2025, in the Zango area of the Kwara State capital.
At a press conference held on Saturday in Ilorin, the State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, announced the arrests while presenting a total of 37 suspects linked to various criminal activities across the state.
According to Ojo, the mother of the infant, Aishat Tahiru of No. 9 Maiduku area, Zango, reported the incident to the Kulende Police Station.
“Aishat stated that at about 2130 hours, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two months old baby Adam Tahiru asleep on the sofa in her room. Shortly after, she instructed her daughter Mariam to check on her, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found.”
The commissioner said an alarm was raised immediately, prompting neighbors to launch a search within the area. Despite their efforts, the baby was not found.
“The matter was subsequently escalated and transferred to the state criminal investigation department, SCID, Ilorin on May 27, 2025, for in-depth investigation,” he stated.
During the course of the investigation, police discovered the lifeless body of baby Adam Tahiru inside a well located within the same community.
“Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the state CID,” Ojo added.
The commissioner also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to rescue multimillionaire petrol dealer Abbas Daniyan and his manager, Abubakar Issa, who were abducted 23 days ago in Gbugbu town, Edu Local Government Area.
“Operatives of the state police command are working assiduously to unravel the abduction,” he said, noting that since the May 10, 2025 kidnapping, three additional cases of abduction have been reported.
Ojo confirmed that other suspects were apprehended for various offenses including criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property, illegal possession of firearms, aiding and abetting, culpable homicide, and housebreaking, among others.
