The Kwara State Government has set the West African Examinations Council fee at N30,250 per student for the 2024/2025 exam session for senior secondary students in public schools.

This fee includes N27,000 for WAEC charges and an additional N3,250 for e-registration and administrative costs.

Announcing the fee, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, warned principals against adding extra fees. “We have warned the principals to shun extortion during the registration, saying whoever is found wanting would face the consequences of such an act,” she said during the WAEC registration launch at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin.

A statement from Peter Amogbonjaye, the ministry’s Press Secretary, reinforced that the Ministry would not allow any extra charges from principals beyond what was approved.

The Commissioner urged principals to support the future of education in Kwara and acknowledged their ongoing efforts to work closely with the Ministry, noting, “The Ministry will not tolerate extra charges from any principal apart from the ones approved by the Ministry.”

Hajia Modibbo-Kawu also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to teachers’ welfare, calling on principals to support the governor’s administration.

Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, commended the governor for advancing education and improving teacher welfare. “The present administration has done justice to improving teachers’ welfare,” he said.

The approved WAEC registration fee breakdown is as follows:

WAEC Charges: N27,000
E-registration Charges: N1,250
Administrative Charges: N2,000
Total: N30,250

President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in Kwara, Mohammad Baba, also thanked the governor for enhancing the state’s education system through school improvements, teacher promotions, and prompt salary payments.

He promised that teachers would fulfill their duties diligently.
